The use of an initial orientation is well accepted but a great need remains for using best practices to improve the quality of these initial orientations. Also a great need is wider spread use on ongoing orientation all though a person’s first year in a new setting. Every new first time experience requires prior orientation if we are to expect people to be successful right away – the first time. THAT is how to build retention and performance!
Typically, such initial and ongoing orientation is planned as a part of a comprehensive induction program, including training, mentoring, and other professional growth activities.
